“Community Acupuncture” is a phrase recently coined to denote acupuncture that is done in small group settings rather than in a private treatment room. Much like the way that acupuncture is practiced in China today, Community Acupuncture provides a highly affordable alternative to private acupuncture treatment. By treating small groups of people together in a slowly rotating fashion (one in every 15min., one out every 15min.) costs are highly minimized. While Community style acupuncture may not be appealing to everyone and may not be the right thing for all illnesses, it does provide a less expensive option for many people. Also, while total privacy may be traded to help lower cost, often times there is an enhanced effect to treatment that is experienced as part of an intimate group. Patient intakes are usually brief (5-10min.) and the treatments that follow will typically last for 35-40min.
