Seva: Selfless Service
In the whirlwind of cooking, decorating, shopping, socializing, eating and drinking, wrapping and surprising that is the holidays …
We are committed to remembering the divine light that lives in everyone, whatever their circumstance. We feel called to serve that light in any way that supports the cause of love in the world. The Sanskrit word seva means “selfless service,” a practice of yoga just as important as downward dog and backbends… and it is in that spirit that we offer an opportunity to give back this holiday season.
The Children’s Hope Alliance is an organization formed to “provide hope and healing for hurting children and families.” It was formed as an alliance between Barium Springs and Grandfather Home for Children which allowed an expansion of services to include foster care, adoptions, educational services, and therapeutic services for children who had suffered trauma.
This year, The Bindu is supporting local children in need by donating toiletries and personal care items to Children’s Hope Alliance. A green box has been set out in our cubby area to collect these supplies. Please drop off new toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc. anytime between now and Christmas.
On Thursday, December 15 at 9:30 am, we will be taking a tour of the Children’s Hope Alliance campus at Barium Springs in Statesville. Contact Sari at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to join in this hour-long tour. If you cannot join us then, tours are offered on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 9:30 am.
We are so grateful for the generous nature of our Bindu community, and hope you will support this worthy cause during this season of giving.
Seva – definition, “selfless service,” “together with” … the idea is that in serving love, we are serving the divine.
