E-RYT-200 | Teacher
Georgia’s journey to become a yoga teacher began in 2007. Years of weight- and cardio-training had begun to feel monotonous, and she had noticed more wear and tear on her body than she should have at age 35. Caring for three young children and a terminally ill family member was taking its toll as well.
She began taking yoga classes in addition to her weekly workouts, and her yoga practice quickly became a personal respite. It was the first time she learned how to listen within. Yoga practice brought a dimension to her already active Christian practice that manifested physical connection to her spirituality.
Georgia studied mostly vinyasa flow, with four teachers mainly from 2007-2015 in Chicago IL. When she moved to Cornelius NC with her family in the summer of 2015, her top personal priority was researching where she would continue her yoga practice.
When she took her first classes at The Bindu with Sari Weston and Kelley Gardner, she knew she had found her new studio home. Not only was the all-welcoming atmosphere engaging, her new teachers taught alignment-based yoga. That was new for her practice and music to her quirky hips as well! Six months later, many body ailments, as well as her own hip structure, were being tended to via her practice with Sari and Kelley.
Georgia’s excitement and curiosity about alignment-based yoga inspired her to take a teacher training with Sari, Kelley, and three other teachers, through Rasika Yoga School. She studied with five Rasika yoga teachers over nine months and received her RYT-200 certification in November 2016. Since then, she has been teaching a small group of dedicated students and is thrilled to begin offering yoga at The Bindu.
The process of discovering alignment-based yoga and becoming certified to teach it has been so transformative that Georgia is ecstatic about sharing and teaching such a body-affirming and life-affirming Hatha Yoga practice. She continues to practice under the watchful eye of her mentors and grows her knowledge of yoga philosophy. Approachable class templates with effective cuing are a top priority for her when she teaches.
Outside of the yoga studio, her family, pets, lake activities and creative outlets happily absorb Georgia’s time. Cultivating gratitude and honoring the immense gifts life has bestowed upon her are beacons of light daily. Becoming a certified yoga teacher ten years after beginning her own practice is one more gift to nurture and grow.
