Why use Ayurveda products?

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that means the science or wisdom of life.  It is an understanding of nature that can be applied to human life.  Ayurveda considers all levels of the individual (body, mind, spirit) and offers natural ways of treating disease and promoting health — and emphasizes prevention.  Dr. John Douillard explains, “Ayurveda recognizes that all of life, whether it be human, plant, or animal must live in harmony with nature.  Like the owner’s manual for your car speaks of maintenance schedules for the long term health of your car, Ayurveda teaches daily and seasonal routines that ensure maximal health and longevity.”

Our Diet is Not Just What We Eat

Oil pullingThrough these teachings we realize that our diet is not only the food we put into our body, but everything we “digest” including products we use on our body, as well as our experiences and daily practices.  For example, we can subtly, yet effectively, balance the doshas through daily practices such as applying body oil and drinking tea to pacify the dosha in excess.

There are also simple ways to reduce toxins in our body by oil-pulling (with Swish!), using a tongue scraper, and dry skin brushing using Garshana lymphatic massage gloves.  Dr. Douillard describes, “Not only does oil-pulling benefit our oral health but also helps to eliminate toxins in the body, as they attach to the oil through the skin. Also, dry skin brushing is extremely beneficial as it supports lymphatic flow and the appearance of smooth skin as well as minimizes the appearance of cellulite.”
