Peace And Knowing

Sitting alone on the steps of the church there as an old man who looked around and embraced everyone and everything as they went by. Not physically, not a hug, but with a smile and with wonder at how so many souls could pass by without pausing. Not for him, but in their own lives to see what he saw. Light, possibility, love, compassion, insecurity buried by ambition, competition in role as divider when no division is ever warranted or needed to be fully in one’s own glory. And he sat there a long time, just looking and wondering, and in awe at the manifestation of life in its many forms. It just so happened this time it was a church, but he’d spent many days, in the same way, from the steps of temples and mosques, and meeting houses of all sorts, and with all kinds of people, and it was all the same. What he couldn’t figure out was why these truths were so hidden to so many. So he kept watching and doing his part to share a smile of peace and knowing.
