Another Turn In The Story

A man was walking down the street when he was stopped by a loud noise that broke the morning calm. It was clear to him that something was amiss, and yet it was not with worry or concern that he went to investigate. He knew he’d been there before or was familiar with the same situation, the difference was illusive, but he had never been there and was in a new place to capture the early light. Turning around, there were two light yellow eyes staring at him, as a coyote (or was it a wolf?) with bared teeth stood firm and frozen. Yet the man wasn’t scared or even startled. Instead, he chose to sit down and turn off his torch which had been showing him the way. Now it was only moonlight and knowing what was in front of him, and comfort knowing that what is made to seem obvious in life is often an illusion waiting for another turn in the story. Another light that illuminates a new direction, unexpected but comforting. And that’s what happened when the sun began to rise and, looking out ahead of him, no beast stood in his way.
